I'm Interested in Leading

We'll walk you through each step.

What is Lamppost Running?

Lamppost Running is a 12-week discipleship experience built around running, Scripture, and real community. Your group trains together, studies the same biblical worldview, and encourages one another along the way.

Run Together

Structured training that gives your group a shared goal and keeps everyone moving forward together.

Study Together

Work through a biblical worldview study each week and talk about how Scripture applies to everyday life.

Grow Together

Build real relationships through encouragement, accountability, conversation, and shared challenge.

Running gets the group together. Scripture gives the group direction. Community is the glue that holds it all together.

Starting is Simple

1. Decide to Lead

You don’t need everything figured out. Just decide that you’re willing to gather people and help them take the journey together.

2. Gather Your Group

Invite a few friends, church members, coworkers, neighbors, or runners you already know. Start with the people God has already placed around you.

3. Choose Your Start Date

Pick a date that works for your group (typically 12 weeks prior to a race), get everyone their Participant Kit, and make sure they know where and when you’ll meet.

4. Run, Study, and Grow Together

Follow the 12-week program, use the training plans, work through the study, and let the shared challenge build deeper Christian community.

We’ve built the program. You gather the people.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting a Lamppost Running group is simple, but we know you may still have a few questions. Here are some of the most common ones.

Do I have to be a pastor or Bible teacher?

No. You don’t need formal ministry training to lead a Lamppost Running group. The study and study guide are already built for you. Your role is to gather the group, help keep everyone engaged, and encourage meaningful conversation.

Do I have to be an experienced runner?

No. Lamppost Running is designed for a wide range of runners, including those who have never run. Training plans are available for multiple distances and ability levels, from 5K through marathon.

How many people do I need to start a group?

You can start small. A few committed people are enough to begin. The goal is not to build a huge group overnight, but to create a meaningful community where people can train, study Scripture, and grow together.

Does my group have to be connected to a church?

No. You can start a Lamppost Running group through your church, workplace, neighborhood, running club, gym, or simply with a group of friends.

How long does a Lamppost Running group last?

The program is designed around a 12-week study and training journey. Most groups choose a race or running goal and work backward approximately 12 weeks to determine their start date.

What does the leader actually do each week?

Your role is simple. Help organize the group, communicate meeting times, encourage participation, and guide the weekly discussion.

You are not expected to prepare a sermon or create your own curriculum. The study materials provide the content and discussion structure.

Does everyone need a Participant Kit?

Yes. Each participant should have their own Participant Kit so they can follow the study, use the Lamppost Running Study Guide, access the training resources, and fully participate in the experience.

Does the leader have to collect money?

No. Once your group is set up, each participant can purchase their own Participant Kit using your group discount. You don’t have to collect money or manage inventory.

Can my group train for different distances?

Yes. Lamppost Running provides training plans for multiple distances and ability levels. Your group can still study together and build community even if everyone is not following the exact same running plan.

What does a typical week look like?

A typical week includes one group meeting and 3 to 5 workouts, depending on the training plan. Most groups use their weekly meeting to discuss the lesson, watch the video, work through the discussion questions, and complete one of the week’s runs together.

The remaining workouts can be done individually or as a group. Some Lamppost Running groups meet for every run, while others only meet once a week. There’s no wrong way to structure it. Choose the rhythm that works best for your group.

What happens after the 12 weeks are over?

The 12-week journey may end, but the community doesn’t have to. Many groups will choose to keep running together, stay connected, or begin another Lamppost Biblical Worldview study when one becomes available.
